As you leave the Vendée, from the Pont du Brault you can cycle in all safety along part of the
Atlantic cycle route or "La Vélodyssée", », which is the French portion of Euroveloroute n°1 which stretches from Norway to Portugal.
This new and exceptional route, strictly reserved for cyclists and covering a total of 1,256 km, will run along the Atlantic coast from Britanny to the Basque country (Roscoff to Hendaye) and across Charente-Maritime, from the Poitevin Marches to Royan via La Rochelle, Rochefort, Marennes and Les Mathes-La Palmyre.
Essentially reserved for cycling, La Vélodyssée® offers many different types of outing. A day's cycle ride, or a weekend or cycling holiday: at your own rhythm, just as you decide.
With friends or family, whether looking for a sporting holiday or simply enjoying big stretches of unspoilt countryside, cycle touring is an unhurried way of getting around.
Thanks to services which have obtained the national brand of approval Accueil Vélo© (accommodation, cycle rentals, visits and leisure activities, and Tourist Offices), these "New Generation" and "Inter Generation" holidays can be enjoyed without a care in the world.
Then you will be perfectly free to continue on down to Spain on the Velodissea® or up to Britain on the Velodyssey®.
