The islands, vineyards and rambles

The islands and forts

The Charentais coastline is edged by islands: , opposite la Rochelle, Oléron, opposite Marennes, Aix and Madame between the two, and with forts, from Fort Lupin in Borouage and Fort Boyard.

Vineyards

Why not end the tour with a look at the Bordelais vineyards and wine storehouses? Their names ring out like a promise of exquisite pleasure. From Royan, a simple ferry journey will take you to the Médoc chateaux. To the land of grands crus!

Rambles

Strollers, walkers and ramblers are also catered for. Waymarked paths snake between vineyards, hillsides, cliffs, marshes and forests, circular circuits that are suitable for both athletic ramblers and casual strollers. Just like pilgrimages to the famous shell, they can take the road in Saintonge that leads to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela and passes by Saint-Jean d’Angély, Saintes and Bordeaux. However, most pilgrims preferred to turn off at Saintes towards Talmont and cross the estuary. It is an opportunity to admire the magnificent Roman churches between Seudre and Gironde!
