Leisure and activities

On the beach... in the sky...

During the summer months the beaches on the coastline are home to many popular activities. There are temporary sculpture competitions and concerts on the sand... At nightfall, following a day in the sun, there are festivals to go to. From the jetties of Royan, aboard one of the many cruise boats, day visitors can learn about the shores, beaches and cliffs that open out onto the ocean waves...

Following the Rêve d’Icare which takes place at the end of May/beginning of June, the summer is full of colours. The beautiful reds and greens of the fireworks form part of its palette from 14th July to 15th August. The pyro-symphonic show on 15th August is particularly popular with 200,000 people gathering on the Royan beach to see it.

In colours... in music...

The season is punctuated with music and exhibitions and the vaults of the Royan churches resound with the sounds of the “Thursday concerts”. At the end of July the “Violon sur le Sable” event attracts 40,000 spectators who come to listen to classical music, jazz and French chanson on the beach.

During the International Show Jumping Event, the leading international riders master man's most beautiful conquest.

... in all seasons

And the festival continues at the Lucian Barrière Casino in Pontaillac. It has everything a gaming enthusiast could ask for: 175 slot machines but also Black Jack, Stud Poker, Texas Hold'em, English Roulette and more.

The third most popular tourist attraction after the beaches and the port, the Jardins du Monde are botanical gardens that cover more than seven hectares of land. The visitor is invited to a fun and pedagogical visit as they travel from the Japanese garden, a place of contemplation, to the heat of the orchid greenhouse or the butterfly house.

It’s all about the children! Fun spaces have been created for children such as the mist and bamboo labyrinth, the giant wooden games and inflatable games, or the water jets to play in as well as the dwarf goat house.

There is even a lounge bar called the Butterfly, open all season until 2am.
